The Department of Design and Computation Arts recognizes the potentially transformative nature of research/creation.
Our artist-researchers combine creative exploration in cutting-edge research projects that acknowledge the centrality of innovation and experimentation in the production of knowledge. They are recognized as world leaders in the research of new media art, design, and interactive performance and technologies.
Research/creation fosters collaboration between faculty and students, facilitating the development of graduate student skills through their direct participation in faculty laboratories and projects. The Department maintains a close relationship with the University's interdisciplinary research initiatives through the PhD in Humanities and Special Individualized Program. Graduate students can access a range of research centres and labs that occupy the forefront of contemporary research/creation, including the Hexagram Institute for Research-Creation in Media Arts and Technologies.
